About Wyo BLU Equine

Brenda Unrein DVM

Dr Brenda Unrein grew up riding horses, and her passion for them took her to veterinary school. She graduated with her DVM from Colorado State University in 2005 and then completed an equine internship at Weems and Stephen Equine Hospital in Texas. After practicing in Texas under some of the most well-known veterinarians in the equine world, she returned north, settling in Wheatland in 2009. From 2013 to 2025, Dr. Unrein was a part-owner and full time veterinarian at Laramie Peak Veterinary Associates. She attended the local 4H fair’s livestock sale as the buyer for LPVA, purchasing market animals from youth in the county, something she has continued after starting her new practice.

Dr Unrein has spent the last 20 years concentrating on improving the life, longevity and well-being of animals. She has attended the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) for continuing education each year since graduating veterinary school. In addition, she has taken several CE courses for reproduction and dentistry from other sources, and a medical acupuncture course from CSU. Her favorite species is horses; she excels at lameness, reproduction, soft tissue surgery (cryptorchid and hernia surgeries), and dentistry. However, cattle are a close second, with a focus on reproduction and herd health. She is proud to serve the community where she and her husband have raised their two children.
